What is my Legal Residence?

Your legal residence is the state in which you have your true, fixed and permanent home and to which, if you are temporarily absent, you intend to return. Voting, paying taxes, owning property, motor vehicle registration and so on, are some indicators of one’s legal resident of some state.  You cannot be a citizen at large.
