Understanding DocBuilder.com and Legal Services

This article describes common legal services and how to properly obtain those services. It also explains that DocBuilder.com is NOT a service provider, but rather an online company staffed by attorneys that provide up-to-date forms.

Neighborhood Legal Services and Community Legal Services

These are generally low cost legal services providers that target a specific geographic region and handle routine problems including simple legal problems, simle administrative procedures, and, commonly, simple disputes. Typically, these legal services are geared toward lower income individuals who need legal service in either the neighborhood or community in which they live.

Free Legal Services

This describes an entire category of legal services provided for free by Pro Bono attorneys. Often, attorneys will work XX (differs among attys) number of hours for free each year to help the community. Unfortunately, it is often very difficult to get free legal services as the services are typically geared toward the destitute and, oftentimes, criminal defense.

Legal Services Corporations and Affordable Legal Services

These corporations provide legal services on behalf of an entire organization rather than a specific individual. Frequently, Legal Services Corporations and Affordable Legal Services are able to provide lower cost alternatives than a traditional law firm. However, they may be governed by stricter laws and codes of ethics than a true law firm.

Legal Aid Foundation

This description can fit a variety of different things, but is often used to describe a situation where a foundation is created to provide either money (legal aid) or services (legal services) for charitable causes or for a specific purpose. For instance, there may be a legal aid foundation in your area that tries to help low income tenants work with landlords on landlord-tenant issues.

Free Legal Aid
This describes an entire category of legal aid provided for free by Pro Bono attorneys. Often, attorneys will work XX (differs among attys) number of hours for free each year to help the Legal Aid group with which they are affiliated. Unfortunately, it is often very difficult to get free legal aid as the services are hard to come by.
